Well, hurricanes almost always miss Hawaii; Hurricane Hector was no exception as the tightly compacted storm went 160 miles south of the Big Island. The hurricane did light up the Kailua Kona sky with clouds and a sunset.

Hurricane Hector is passing 160 miles south of the Big Island as this picture of Kona cruise ship was taken. Fortunately, Hurricane Hector, while vacillating between a Category 4 and Category 5 Hurricane was a powerful, but small storm – essentially the Mini Cooper of hurricanes.
